Momma's got a gig.

We've got a couple big things on our October calendar: First, the Buddy Walk is on the 8th. I can't believe it's only 2 weeks away. And we've already raised over $2500. It's incredible! How blessed we are to be surrounded by such loving and supportive and gracious family and friends. Good ole Mom has been helping to collect money for the team and our friend Joe really went to town getting us some big donations are we are so grateful. I feel that the start of this school year really put me into a tailspin and that the Buddy Walk kind of crept up on me. Time to go dig my box of red t-shirts and all things Seuss out of the basement!
And then, exactly one week after the Buddy Walk, I've got a gig. I like saying that I've got a gig. Being a stay-at-home mom means that my "gigs" usually means volunteering in a classroom or a playdate. But this time, I've got a real gig: Kendra Smith, public *gulp* speaker.

The last time I spoke to a group of people who weren't 10 years old, I was in college doing a demonstration speech on how to make Rice Krispie treats. Riveting, I know. And frankly, the treats were lousy. So whatever possessed someone to recruit me to speak at a Christian Women's Conference is beyond me. A former high school teacher of mine is the brains behind the conference and we've been in contact since Alexis was born. So I'll be heading to Elkhart on October 15 to tell Lexi's story. Prayers are welcome.
